In 2015, more than 10 million American households spent nearly $50 billion renovating their kitchens, according to the National Kitchen and Bath Organization.
Since the kitchen is the most-used room in the home, and the most popular among home-buyers, it’s money well-invested.
If you plan on joining the renovators it’s time to learn about various Orange County kitchen trends so that you’re better able to choose the one that fits your lifestyle. You can never over-plan your new kitchen, right?
From color schemes to layouts, windows to lighting, here are some brilliant Orange County kitchens from top builders.
The Contemporary Kitchen
The contemporary kitchen is on the cutting edge of technology in Orange County kitchen trends. If you love new gadgets you may just be the type that will enjoy a contemporary kitchen.
Think “sleek” when choosing appliances and anything you can have built-in, by all means do so, even the fridge.
This gorgeous gourmet kitchen featured in the Capistrano model home at the stunning Toll Brothers community, Enclave at Yorba Linda has built-in appliances, as well as a full prep kitchen.
Look for patterned backsplashes (such as glass tile) and don’t forget under — and inside — cabinet lighting.
HGTV suggests the best places to shop for contemporary items in Orange County kitchen trends include West Elm, Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn. They also offer a style guide for contemporary kitchens on their website.
Are you done with farmhouse kitchens this year? Go with dark cabinets, double thick counter-tops, and heavy hardware– a nice break from the popular white-on-white cottage kitchens we’ve seen everywhere. Just make sure your darker cabs are balanced with lighter furniture pieces and flooring. The masculine design style is one of my favorite new Orange County kitchen trends!

The Cottage Kitchen
Although a cottage-style design may seem more suited to a vintage home, it was probably the most desired of Orange County kitchen trends in 2017 and the concept is not going anywhere anytime soon.
As you approach the design, think homey, cozy, utilitarian and down-to-earth, like this all-white kitchen featured at Residence 1X of the CalAtlantic Homes community, Vivaz at Esencia, in Rancho Mission Viejo:
Color schemes are typically heavy on the white, but “pretty painted base cabinets in pastel blue make a room shine bright,” according to Kathy Barnes at Better Homes & Gardens.
Speaking of cabinets, you can also mix traditional shaker cabinets with warm wood shelves. Then, throw in a farmhouse sink, hardwood floors and pendant lights. Bam! You’ve got a sweet cottage kitchen.
